How to setup OpenVPN client on Windows to connect to OpenVPN server

In this tutorial we will show you how to setup OpenVPN client to connect to OpenVPN server from Windows 10, 8, and 7.

We will utilize the following software in this tutorial.

https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
https://winscp.net/

Download and install OpenVPN client for Windows.








Click Install to install the OpenVPN TAP adapter





Next download and install WinSCP client for Windows.








Next run WinSCP from the link on the desktop and add the connection information for your OpenVPN server VPS.  Save the connection info.





Click OK to save.



Click Login to connect to your OpenVPN server VPS.



Click Yes to accept the host key.



Enter the password for the OpenVPN server VPS you were sent in your Welcome email.



Download the "vpn-client-config-user1" folder to your local documents folder.



Next open your local documents folder to access the downloaded files.  Right-click and choose Copy on the folder to copy.



Next open the OpenVPN config folder "C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config".   Right-click and choose Paste to copy it to the destination.




Double-click on the OpenVPN Gui desktop icon to run the program



Right-click on the icon on the taskbar and click Connect



The OpenVPN client will establish the connection to the OpenVPN server VPS




Once the connection completes the OpenVPN client will minimize to the taskbar and show green.
